Mt. Pleasant girls basketball falls in Ottumwa
Tough 2nd half leads to defeat in Panthers’ road game

OTTUMWA — The Mt. Pleasant girls basketball team traveled west to Ottumwa on Monday night for its second game of the young season. The Panthers were downed 52-29 in non-conference play.
Mt. Pleasant trailed 9-5 after one period of play. The Panthers’ best quarter was the second, where they were able to cut the lead down to 18-15.
Ottumwa controlled the second half, keeping Mt. Pleasant to just five points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth to run away with the ballgame.
Despite the loss, Mt. Pleasant’s Abby Carthey had a nice showing, scoring 16 points on the night, including a pair of 3-point baskets. Juliana Burns finished the night with five points. Alexa Fuller had there points and eight rebounds.
Hailey Parrott sunk a 3-pointer during the game to finish with three points. Kynlee White had two points and three steals off the bench.
Mt. Pleasant is now 0-2 on the season. The Panthers will play at Burlington (1-0) on Friday night.
