DES MOINES - It was a busy weekend at Drake Stadium for the Mt. Pleasant sprinters, especially the team’s 4X100 relay quartet, which now holds the school record.
The 4X100 quartet of Kynlee White, Alex Scott, Bailey Jalas and Andi Scott made Mt. Pleasant history on Friday. During the preliminaries, the team crossed the finish line in 48.89 seconds, etching their names in MPCHS track history.
“It was so fun,” said Jalas. “I'm just really glad we got to run in the finals, against all the other fast, fast teams.”
The group, made up of two sophomores and two seniors, would finish fifth in the finals one day later, ending the race in a time of 48.36 seconds.
“Bringing it home for my team is my favorite park of track, for sure,” said Andi Scott after her anchor leg. “I just love hearing the crowd roar. It just fuels me to not stop.”
The quartet scored four points for the team. Overall, the squad would score seven.
“It was definitely really exciting being able to run in all those races,” said White. “I'm just glad we made it this far.”
White and Alex Scott both ran over four events. Scott was on the track six times, qualifying sixth in the 100-meter dash before taking eighth place, in 12.91 seconds. White ran in the 200-meter prelims.
“It really helps a lot just getting the experience to run around, and getting used to all the people,” Alex Scott said. “That's the one thing you have to get used to, is the people.”
The Panthers’ other two points came from Kya Goodrich, who hit her personal record with a discus toss of 119 feet, 6 inches, which earned her seventh place.
The Panther boys did not score any points. Avin Truong placed 14th in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 4.50 inches.
