The Mt. Pleasant girls' golf team started its 2011 season Tuesday, April 5 with a win over Fairfield, 222-237.
Natalie Booton, district champion from last season, won the individual title of medalist at the meet, beating out Fairfield's state qualifier Sami Herman by one stroke, 47-48. The Fairfield Country Club is a par 37 course.
Courtney Mabeus followed Booton with a 54 against Fairfield, followed by Lindsay Dorn who shot a 55.
"It was nice to start the season off with a victory. Sami Herman of Fairfield is a returning state qualifier so for Natalie Booton to be medalist was encouraging," said coach Jim Kelly. "I thought Courtney Mabeus did well in her first ever varsity match and Lindsay Dorn show much improvement over last year on this course."
Rounding out the scoring for Mt. Pleasant was Morgan Barton with a score of 66, Danika Christner with a 67 and Mackenzie Notestein with a 69.
Mt. Pleasant travels to Keokuk this morning for a 9 a.m. meet.
