KEOKUK — Mt. Pleasant girls soccer has had one heck of a start to the 2024 season.
On Thursday, the Panthers (3-1) won their third straight game, a 8-0 rout of Southeast Conference opponent Keokuk on the road. All three wins have been against SEC opponents.
Mt. Pleasant did big damage to Keokuk in the first half of the two’s meeting. The Panthers slipped in a whopping five goals through the first 40 minutes. That was more than enough to put the Chiefs away.
The Panthers didn’t let off the gas. While they didn’t match their first half total, the Panthers added three more goals in the second half as insurance.
Five different Panthers got involved in the scoring against Keokuk.
Tori Wilson led the way with four goals and one assist. Charice Auwerda ended with one goal and four assists.
Hailey Parrott, Mattisyn Wenke and Aurora Hummell each had a goal as well. Parrott also had one assist.
The win propels the Panthers to the top of the SEC standings, 3-0, along with Burlington, who is also a unblemished 3-0.
Mt. Pleasant will take on Burlington (4-2) on Monday for a chance to take sole possession of the top spot in the SEC.
