MT. PLEASANT — When Mt. Pleasant and Washington girls soccer meet on the pitch there’s one thing for certain, it’s going to go down to the wire.
In the previous seven meetings between to two squads, dating back to 2019, one goal is all that separated the pair.
On Monday, that streak was broken as Mt. Pleasant shutout the Demons 2-0.
It was yet again a back and forth affair between the Panthers (2-1) and Demons (1-4), but this time Mt. Pleasant’s defense shined.
The Panthers held the Demons scoreless for the first time since 2019 as every Washington opportunity was either thwarted by Mt. Pleasant’s backline or saved by goalkeeper Eli Heaton.
Heaton saved seven Demon shots in the win. Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant turned 14 shot (six on goal) into the pair of goals.
Sarai Sanchez opened up the scoring for Mt. Pleasant in the first half and Tori Wilson closed it out off a rebound shot with 1:22 remaining in the first half.
Washington picked up the pace in the second half offensively, but couldn’t find the means to come out on top.
