MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant girls soccer team put together a gritty performance against Fort Madison Thursday evening, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers fell just short to the Bloodhounds, 5-3.
The Panthers grinded through-in and throughout the first half of their contest with fellow Southeast Conference foe Fort Madison. By the end of the battle in the first half, the game was all knotted up at 3-3.
With the game in anyone's hands, Mt. Pleasant had a multitude of chances to take control, but it was Fort Madison who would answer the call.
After their three goals in the first half, the Panther offense went stagnant in the second, while Fort Madison had all the answers.
The Bloodhounds went on to score two goals of their own in the second to take sole control of the game.
Mt. Pleasant never found a fix and Fort Madison was able to seal the victory in the SEC bout.
Elly Manning finished with two goals and one assist for the Panthers. Abby West added another goal.
Mount Pleasant, 4-3, will take on Washington, 6-2, at home in their next match. The last time the two met, it was an extra time thriller in Washington.
