MT. PLEASANT - It was a grinder in Mt. Pleasant on Friday night as the Panther girls outlasted Washington in a low-scoring affair, upending the Demons 36-32.
Mt. Pleasant's defense came to play early. Washington was held to just two points in the first seven minutes of the game and the Panthers led 10-5 after the first quarter buzzer.
Mt. Pleasant was able to stretch that lead up to eight points by the end of the first half. Seven different Panthers scored in the first two periods to take a 19-11 into halftime.
In the third quarter, it was Washington who played suffocating defense to come back and tie the game. Mt. Pleasant was held scoreless for the first seven minuets of the first half and Washington battled back to knot it up at 21-21 in the final minute of the third quarter.
After going into the final period tied, Washington led twice, at 22-21 and 24-23. Mt. Pleasant took a 26-24 lead on a three-point play by Emma Huckabone with 4:57 on the clock and never geave it back.
Isabel Ashton led the Panthers with nine points in the win. Karsyn Lamms cored vive. Avery Sutter, Elli Liechty and Andrea Lopreato finished with four each. Tristian Shull and Lydia Stewart each had two.
Washington hit eight three-pointers in the loss. Anna Nacos sank two of those and finished the game with a team-leading eight points. Halle Leyden had two threes as well, and scored seven.
Madison Fishback scored six points for the Demons. Addison Six scored five. Olivia Pacha had three. Kellie Dallmeyer scored two, and Kinsey Duwa had one.
