BURLINGTON — The Mt. Pleasant girls tennis team tried its luck in a Southeast Conference tilt at Burlington on Thursday but the Panthers wound up a few wins short of a conference victory.
Despite winning the top singles and doubles match, along with the bottom doubles match, Mt. Pleasant struggled in the middle games to fall 3-6.
In singles, No. 1 player Savana Walls continued her strong season with an 8-3 win. The only other winner was Ellie Situmeang, who took the No. 6 match 8-5.
Melanie Olivas dropped her No. 2 match 8-2. Gisele Fajardo-Pena fell 8-0 in the No. 3 match. Melanie Yocum was upended 8-1 in the No. 4 match, and Eva Rounceville dropped the No. 5 match, 8-3.
Walls and Olivas grinded out a tough 9-7 victory in the No. 1 doubles match, but that’s all the Panthers would get, dropping doubles two matches to one.
Yocum and Victoria Smith were bested 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles match. Situmeang and Mary Kate Peterson fell in the No. 3 doubles match, but the final score was not recorded.
The Panthers also dropped on junior varsity match. Peterson and Audrey Richmond fell 8-2 in JV doubles.
Mt. Pleasant will be right back at it on Tuesday. The Panthers will welcome in Maharishi for a non conference clash, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
