KEOKUK — The Mt. Pleasant girls tennis team saw success in the top singles and doubles matches on Thursday in Keokuk, but the Panthers couldn’t pick up their first win. Keokuk knocked off Mt. Pleasant 7-2 in Southeast Conference play.
Savana Walls continued to improve in the No. 1 singles spot, picking up an 8-5 victory. She was a double-winner on the day, as she and Gisele Fajardo ground out a tight No. 1 doubles game, winning 8-6.
The Panthers lost four singles matches. Maggie Fitzpatrick dropped the No. 2 match, 8-3. Fajardo fell in the No. 3 match, 8-1. Melanie Olivas fell 8-1 in the No. 4 match, and Malena Yocum fell 8-0 in the No. 5 match.
The No. 2 doubles team of Fitzpatrick and Olivas were upended 8-3.
Mt. Pleasant had just five players present, meaning there was no No. 6 singles match or No. 3 doubles match. Mt. Pleasant was forced to forfeit both of those, giving Keokuk two extra points.
