Mt. Pleasant girls win Denny White Relays
Washington top area boys team with 4th-place finish

MT. PLEASANT — It was a busy night on Thursday at Mapleleaf Athletic Conference as 22 boys teams and seven girls teams took part in Mt. Pleasant’s Denny White Relays.
The hometown Panther girls took first place, scoring 207 points on the day, seven more than second-place West Burlington-Notre Dame. Washington was the top boys team, getting fourth place, with 98 points.
The Mt. Pleasant girls had nine victories on the day. The Panthers dominated the throwing events and distance events.
In the field, Mt. Pleasant’s Jadan Brumbaugh and Grace Kelley combined to sweep the throwing events. Brumbaugh set herself as the top shot put thrower in the state with a toss of 44 feet, 1 inch. Kelley won the discus with a hurl of 115 feet, 4 inches.
Cristina Carthey ended the night with two long distance wins, taking the 3000-meter run in 12:01.44, and the 1500, in 5:35.53. Abby Blint won the 800, in 2:42.18.
Karsyn Lamm won the 100-meter hurdles race, finishing in 16.19 seconds.
The Panther girls had three relay wins. The 4x800 relay team of Ralyn Seberg, Jayden Housh, Abby Blint and Carthey won in 11:14.47. The shuttle hurdle squad of Allie Westercamp, Kenna Lamm, Jenna Gilmore and Karsyn Lamm won in 1:09.33, and the distance medley squad of Kendin Scheitlin, Tristian Shull, Ralyn Seberg and Blint won in 4:56.85.
Washington’s boys squad took four events. Lance Sobaski won two of those, taking the 3200-meter run in 9:46.21, and winning the long jump with a leap of 6 feet even.
Elijah Morris gave the Demon boys another win, taking the 400-meter hurdles in 50.21 seconds. The 4x400 team of Ethan Patterson, Cameron Vongpanya, Morris and Sobaski won in 3:31.32.
The Fairfield boys 4x800 team of Gavin VanVeen, Alex Forrest, Kaden Mickels and Kevin Kretz won in 8:45.04. Cooper Pullis had the only Mt. Pleasant boys victory, throwing the shot put 50 feet, 10 inches.
In Class B, New London led the area squads with three wins. Carter Allen won the shot put (49 feet, 3 inches) and the discus (152 feet, 5 inches), and Rylan Martin won the 800, finishing in 2:08.23.
The Pekin boys won two events. Brady Millikin won the 1600-meter run in 4:35.34, and the 4x800 team of Zack Wise, Sven Dahlstrom, Deklan Hampton and Jaedon Wolver took first in 9:03.62.
Van Buren County’s Lane Davis won the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 16.62 seconds. VBC’s Tyler Stotz won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches. Cardinal’s Griffin Greiner lept 20 feet, 4 inches to win the long jump.
