GRINNELL — Both Mt. Pleasant and Washington were in action at Grinnell over the weekend, and it was the Panthers who walked out with some wins.
Mt. Pleasant went 3-1 on the day, pushing the Panthers above .500 on the season. Washington was 0-3.
Two of Mt. Pleasant’s wins came at the hands of the hosting Tigers. The Tigers swept Grinnell 23-21, 21-17 in pool play and 21-19, 21-19 in the bracket.
Mt. Pleasant’s other victory came against Iowa Valley, a team the Panthers swept 22-20, 21-13. The Panthers’ only loss came to Dallas Center-Grimes. The Mustangs toppled Mt. Pleasant 21-9, 21-17.
Two of Washington’s losses came in three sets. The Demons were one set away from victory against Iowa Valley after winning the first, 24-22. They lost the next two, 21-15 and 15-12.
After dropping the first set, 21-18, against East Marshall, Washington won a nail-biter 22-20 to force a third. In the decider, however, the Demons came up short, falling 15-8.
Washington was defeated by Clear Creek-Amana, falling 21-8, 21-9.
West Liberty won the tournament, going 4-0. The Comets didn’t lose a set all day.
