Mt. Pleasant golf advances to districts
Washington’s Roman Roth moves on as individual

WASHINGTON — The Mt. Pleasant boys golf team needed almost every stroke to hold off rival Washington in its Class 3A sectional tournament on Friday.
The Panthers edged the Demons by just three strokes, shooting a 353 to Washington’s 356, to take the last advancing spot. Solon won the meet with 316.
The Panthers used three scores of 85 and under to help propel them to second place. The Panthers were led by their No. 3 golfer as junior Reece Kempker shot an 82. Brevin Wilson finished at 84, and Nick Matheney finished at 85.
Reece Coffman sneaked in as Mt. Pleasant’s fourth scorer with a 102. Nate Dismang was right behind him with a 103. Ian Hake finished the tournament at 117.
Although Washington won’t be going to Friday’s district tournament as a team, the Demons weren’t completely shut out. Freshman Roman Roth finished at 76 to take second place overall, good enough to qualify as an individual.
Teague Mayer was Washington’s second-best golfer, shooting an 89 on the day. Grant Sobaski finished at 94, and John Prochaska shot 97 to become the Demons’ fourth scorer.
Luke Beenblossom shot a 99 for the Demons. Isaac Vetter was one shot behind him, shooting 100 even.
Fairfield finished fifth out of the eight teams present. The Trojans shot 377 on the day.
Every Fairfield golfer shot under 100. The top Trojan was Evan Haines, who finished the day at 92. Jeremy Crile was two strokes bhine him, at 94.
Sam Weaton shot 95, and Brad Smithburg finished at 96 to close out the Trojan scorers. Both Nate Smithburg and Dave Eisner shot 97.
