Mt. Pleasant hosts girls basketball jamboree
Panthers, Trojans pick up wins in half-game scrimmages

MT. PLEASANT — Eight area girls basketball teams met at Mt. Pleasant Community High School on Monday night.
Four scrimmage games took place on the night, all one half long, as teams got a taste of what real games will look like when the regular season officially kicks off next week.
Fairfield and Winfield-Mount Union battled in the Union area’s first battle of the night, which was the third game out of three. The Trojans led the Wolves 15-7 after one quarter and took the win 26-15.
Briana Steele scored eight points to lead the Trojans. Grace Lyon had seven points. Savannah Hollander with four points. Lauren Martin scored three points. Elyse Setterstrom and Faith Jones each finished with two.
Winfield-Mount Union’s Pacey Schlee scored seven points in the half. Kaelyn Townsley had six points, and Maggie Hutton scored two.
Mt. Pleasant played WACO in the second game of the night. After leading 12-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Panthers took down the Warriors 23-14.
Mt. Pleasant Abby Carthey put up 10 points on the night. Kynlee White scored five points. Alexa Fuller had four. Myah Starr had three points, and Hailey Parrott scored one.
WACO’s Marie Farmer scored five points. Emma Wagler finished with four. Halle Shelman scored three points, and Ella Huisenga had two.
In the previous two games on the night, Burlington out-dueled Lone Tree 26-19, and Keokuk beat Mediapolis 32-19.
