Mt. Pleasant leads area at SEC bowling meet
Panther girls take 2nd, boys 3rd; Jonathan Fortin splits for SEC individual crown

KEOKUK — The Mt. Pleasant bowling teams had a nice outing at the Southeast Conference championships at Keokuk’s Arrowhead Bowl on Tuesday night. The Panthers scooped up a pair of Top-3 finishes, leading the Union coverage area.
The Panther girls took second in the team standings, scoring a 2,277 to finish behind first-place Keokuk (2,774). The Mt. Pleasant boys finished third, with a total pinfall of 2,501, and junior Jonathan Fortin tied for first place individually with a 451.
Fortin’s big day placed him right next to Keokuk senior Blake Hemann, who also bowled a 451. Fortin and Hemann beat out Washington’s Ethan Zieglowsky, who took third place with a 425. Only four bowlers on the boys’ side rolled over 400.
Other notables on the boys’ side included Caleb Zieglowsky, who finished ninth place with a 354, and Fairfield’s Dalton Drish, who rolled a 339 for 12th.
Keokuk dominated on the girls’ side, but Mt. Pleasant slid into second by over 100 pins. The Panthers finished the day at 2,277, and Keokuk rolled to a final pinfall of 2,774.
Mt. Pleasant’s Eden Svoboda rolled a 338, tying her for seventh in the conference. Teammate Addie McGehearty was right behind her with a 323.
Fairfield’s Karen Ehret bowled a 320, the top Trojan girl on the day. Mt. Pleasant’s Bethany Drury also finished Top-12, finishing tied for 11th with a 304.
Washington’s top bowler on the girls’ side was Leigha Heisdorffer. The Demon senior bowled a 271.
