Mt. Pleasant, Mid-Prairie move on
Panthers dominate, Golden Hawks survive in girls soccer quarterfinals

Both the Mt. Pleasant and the Mid-Prairie girls soccer teams were in regional quarterfinal action last week, and both teams will be moving on to the semifinals on Tuesday night.
Mt. Pleasant 10, Maquoketa 0 (Friday)
It was all Panthers in the Class 2A Region 3 opener at East Lake Park, as Mt. Pleasant mercy ruled Maquoketa to move on.
Mt. Pleasant scored six goals in the first half and four in the second, which ended the game via a 10-goal rule.
Mt. Pleasant’s Elly Manning had a huge day, going for four goals and three assists. Aurora Hummel netted three goals of her own.
Charise Auwerda finished the game with two goals and one assist. Tori Wilson had a goal and an assist. Kierra Parrish finished with one assist.
Eli Heaton pitched a shut out in net for the Panthers. Heaton finished the game with three saves.
Mt. Pleasant will have its hands full in Tuesday’s semifinals, as the Panthers travel north to take on Central DeWitt.
Mid-Prairie 1, Central Lee 0 (Wednesday)
Zoey Curtiss scored the only goal of the game in a Class 1A Region 3 opener. Curtiss scored one goal in the first half, putting the ball in the net off an assist by Elise Gingerich.
Niva Helmuth had a monster game in net. She saved a ridiculous 18 shots from the Hawks to help Mid-Prairie cling on to victory.
The Golden Hawks (11-6) will travel to top-seeded Van Meter (10-3) on Tuesday night.
Pella Christian 9, Columbus 0 (Wednesday)
Columbus couldn’t hang with a tough Pella Christian squad on the road in Class 1A Region 3 action.
Pella Christian scored six goals in the first half and three in the second to knock off the Wildcats.
