MT. PLEASANT — Coming into Mt. Pleasant’s Southeast Conference bout with Fort Madison on Tuesday night, both the Panthers and Bloodhounds were searching for their first SEC victory of the season.
Winning the night and notching that first conference win was the Panthers in sweeping fashion.
Mt. Pleasant defeated Fort Madison 25-22, 25-20 and 25-22 in each of the three sets.
In set one, the Panthers look like a team on a mission. Mt. Pleasant lept out to a 6-0 lead, but Fort Madison hung in there and eventually tied it up late.
The Bloodhounds finally brought it even at 15-15 and lastly at 21-21, but the Panthers ended on a 4-1 run capped off by a kill from Addison Clark.
Set two was competitive early, as Mt. Pleasant led by one, 15-14, at the midway point.
However, the Panthers were able to seal it after posting a 9-2 run to make it 24-16.
Set three saw the Panthers jump out to another early led as Savannah Slobodnik hammered back-to-back kills for the Panthers to a 7-3 lead.
Fort Madison answered back and the two squads tied five times before the Panthers took the set on a Bloodhound hit into the net.
Addison Clark finished with eight kills in the win and Savannah Slobodnik finished with seven.
Abby Carthey dished out 26 assists in the victory as well.
