Mt. Pleasant overcomes Washington boys Friday

The end of the SEC boys? schedule was upon us on Friday night as Washington and No. 4 Mt. Pleasant showed down for their last conference games of the year.

The Panthers scored the first 30 points of the game and the Demons could never recover as Mt. Pleasant walked out with an 88-31 victory.

Mt. Pleasant?s pressure defense was too overwhelming for Washington in the first eight minutes. The Panthers outscored the Demons, 25-0, in the first period, led by Jordan Magnani, who had nine points.

After a 5-0 run for Mt. Pleasant made it 30-0, Tanner Coleman hit a layup to stop the MP run.

Washington played the Panthers even in the second quarter after the initial five points. Jack Redlinger hit a couple of 3s in the period for Washington. The Panthers led 44-14 at half behind 15 first-half points from Jonathan Ita.

Mt. Pleasant outscored Washington, 44-17, in the second half to finish out the game.

Brady Sartorius scored 18 points in the win. Maison Ashton scored 17. Ita had 16. Magnani had 13 to give the Panthers four double-digit scorers.

Colin Mulford scored nine points for the Panthers. Brody McGhghy scored seven. Tucker Johnson had four. Kieran Kohorst scored three and Rhett Zeglen scored one.

Redlinger led Washington with nine points. Dalton Myers, Mason Rich and Blake Hartzler each scored five.

John Dillon and Cade Hennigan scored three points apiece and the duo of Cale Hobscheidt and Tanner Coleman scored two points each.

Mt. Pleasant went to 18-2 on the year and will host Solon for their next game, tonight (Monday) at 7:30 p.m.

Washington fell to 7-12 with the loss. They?ll host Williamsburg on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
