Mt. Pleasant, Pekin girls win Falcon Relays

WEST BURLINGTON — The Union area girls track and field teams scooped up win after win after win in West Burlington on Tuesday night.
Mt. Pleasant and Pekin took home team championships from a night that saw 12 teams go at it at the Falcon Relays. Washington and Fairfield were second and third in Class A, and Winfield-Mount Union, WACO and New London took fourth, fifth and sixth in Class B.
Mt. Pleasant won five individual titles and one relay championship. Andi Scott led the way with a double win in the sprints, taking the 100-meter dash in 13.40 seconds, and the 200-meter dash in 27.82 seconds.
Mt. Pleasant’s Rellana Van Deuren won the 400-mtere hurdles in 1:14.15. Abby Carthey took the 800-meter run in 2:37.24, and Kynlee White won the long jump in 15-02.
Mt. Pleasant’s 4X200 team, featuring Van Deuren, Scott, Bailey Jalas and Tristian Shull also win, crossing the tape in 1:55.65.
The Washington girls were right behind Mt. Pleasant in the standings, falling to the Panthers by 26 points. The Demons did have more wins on the day.
Washington had nine wins on the day, including six in individual events. Iris Dahl was a double winner, taking the 400-meter dash in 1:03.76, and the 3000 in 11:19.54.
The Demons also picked up a win in the 100-meter hurdles, as Leighton Messinger won in 17.51 seconds. Lauren Horak took the 1500 with a final time of 5:47.73.
Washington had two wins in the field, as Kadence Howell took the discus throw in 97 feet, 1 inch, and Grace Voss cleared 4 feet, 10 inches in the high jump.
In relay races, Washington’s 4X400 squad of Voss, Taylor Miksch, Eden Levetzow and Dahl won in 4:26.85. The 4X800 quartet of Kendall Hinrichsen, Abigail Kleese, Isabella Lujan and Voss took first, in 10:40.80, and the distance medley team of Nevaeh Broen, Levetzow, Kleese and Horak crossed first in 4:48.10.
Fairfield had one win in Class A. The Trojans’ shuttle hurdle quartet of Maya Lane, Lilly Bergren, Hayley Reinier and Mady Martin won, in 1:14.51.
Pekin won four events en route to a Class B victory. Those wins included two in the distance events and two in the throws.
Anna Hadley had a big day in the throws for Pekin. She threw the discus 118 feet, 5 inches, and the shot put 32 feet, 07.50 inches.
On the track, Pekin’s Chloe Glosser won the 1500 in 5:18.43. Lauren Steigleder took the 300 in 12:02.28.
WMU had four wins in Class B. That included two individual wins on the track, as Aurey Meeker won the 100-meter dash in 14.08 seconds, and Keetyn Townsley took the 100-meter hurdles, in 17.07.
Quin Smith had a win for the Wolves in the Class B high jump, leaping 4 feet, 10 inches.
