Mt. Pleasant, Pekin girls wrestlers battle in Pella
McNamee, Miller bring home championships from tournament

PELLA — Both Mt. Pleasant and Pekin traveled to Pella on Tuesday for a girls wrestling tournament. The tournament included 15 different schools, all coming together to do battle.
Mt. Pleasant had six wrestlers compete, and all six finished in the Top 3. That included Ella McNamee who rolled to a 105A championship, going 3-0.
McNamee had three pins on the day. She took down Makyanna Beinhart of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremotn in 3 minutes, 5 seconds. She defeated Lizzy Jones of Ottumwa in 39 seconds, and then pinned Clarke’s Maisy Davis in 3:35.
At 115A, Alexis Wagner went 2-1, including a couple of falls. She pinned two different Colfax-Mingo wrestlers, winning matches in 3:09 and 1:53.
Natalie Parrorr took second in the 115B bracket. Her lone win was a pin over Lyla Day of English Valleys-Tri County.
Jayden Housh was second at 130A. She went 1-1 with a pin over English Valleys’s-Tri County, taking the match in 1:18.
Zenlynn Lee went 1-1 for a second-place finish at 190B. She pinned Newton’s Ashlyn Vanmanen in 59 seconds.
Natalie Albright went 0-2 at 235A, but finished third.
Pekin placed all five of its wrestlers in the Top-5. Lila Miller led the way, winning the 140A bracket.
Miller wrestled for just over a minute to earn the bracket. She pinned Ottumwa’s Kaydance Hancock in 20 seconds and finished off Colfax-Mingo’s Lily Brenner in 49 seconds.
Pekin had three wrestlers take third. Payten Coleman took bronze at 125B. Emma Hopper was third at 125B, and Rainee Greiner took third at 135A.
Hailey Pedrick also placed for Pekin. She was fourth-place at 135A. One of her losses was a sudden victory defeat against Greiner.
