Mt. Pleasant runner-up at Panther Relays

MT. PLEASANT — If one thing’s for sure, it’s that anytime the Mt. Pleasant girls grace the track and field they’re going to produce results.
Tuesday night at their own Panther Relays, it was no different.
Mt. Pleasant pulled out a second-place finish in Class A with 113 total points. Washington also competed in the meet, tallying a final score of 49 for sixth. Williamsburg took the Class A crown with a team score of 130.
The Panthers had four total event wins in the invitational, two in the field and two on the track.
Jadan Brumbaugh won yet another shot put title, tossing the shot 44 feet, 10.5 inches for the title. In the process, Brumbaugh broke the previous meet record — held by former Panther Mary Wester — by over three feet.
Elsie Lange continues her run of stellar performances, hoisting the long jump crown with a jump of 15 feet, 7.75 inches.
Abby Blint picked up 10 points for Mt. Pleasant in the 1500-meter run. Blint finished with a top time of 5:28.03.
In the 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay, Kenna Lamm, Blint, Allie Westercamp and Jenna Gilmore were winners with a time of 1:09.71.
For the Demons, Quincy Griffis was the sole winner. Griffis was the top medalist in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:44.58.
In the Class B bracket, Pekin was the team champion with 129 total points. Winfield-Mt. Union. Union, Cardinal, WACO and New London were also featured.
Pekin had more than a handful of wins on the day. The Panthers finished with seven gold medalist in the competition.
Lauren Derscheid was a two-time champion on the day, taking the 1500-meter crown, 5:27.62, and the 3000-meter, 11:44.14.
Kerrigan Pope was a winner in discus with a throw of 120 feet, 8 inches.
Pekin’s Emily Laumeyer’s time of 1:02.39 was good enough for first in the 400-meter dash.
The Panthers had three relay wins on the day. Claire Roth, Audrey Fariss, Sarah Eubanks and Makenzie Dahlstrom won the 4x400 with a time of 4:20.14.
In the 4x800, Fariss, Steigleder, Eubanks and Alex Parsons posted a 10:21.69 for first.
The distance medley squad comprised of Dahlstrom, Kayse Miller, Fariss and Derscheid were victorious with a time of 4:43.46.
Winfield had two winners on the day. Keetyn Townsley won the 100-meter hurdles for the Wolves, clocking a time of 17.39. Jobey Malone was the shot put champion with a toss of 36 feet, 5.5 inches.
Cardinal had one finalist on the day. Makenna Chickering dashed to the 100-meter title with a time of 14.09.
WACO and New London had no first place finishes on the day.
