Mt. Pleasant seventh, eighth grade football teams tackle Ottumwa
The Mt. Pleasant seventh and eighth grade football teams took on Ottumwa on Monday. The eighth graders split a pair of games on their home field, while the seventh grade gold team picked up a narrow win and the maroon team tied with the Bulldogs.

The Mt. Pleasant seventh and eighth grade football teams took on Ottumwa on Monday. The eighth graders split a pair of games on their home field, while the seventh grade gold team picked up a narrow win and the maroon team tied with the Bulldogs.
In the eighth grade games, the Mt. Pleasant ?A? team defeated Ottumwa, 32-14.
Patrick Canby had 113 rushing yards for three touchdowns and also ran in a two-point conversion. DShundric Foster ran for a team-high 118 yards and scored one touchdown, and Brock Wilson carried for 50 yards and had one touchdown.
Wilson was five-for-nine passing for 48 yards. Canby had all five catches for 48 receiving yards, and also had a team-high 11 tackles. Zach Ebeling brought down nine, while Ryan Moutrie, Thadius Williams and Tre Cosgrove had seven tackles each.
In the ?B? game, it was the Bulldogs who came out on top, 44-20.
Aminn Ellis had 82 rushing yards for the Panthers and Brandon Hart had six yards.
Dustin Mitchell was three-for-nine passing for 27 yards. Hart had a 20-yard catch and Jeffrey Cox had two catches for seven receiving yards.
Ellis led the team with seven tackles; Brandon Nguyen brought down six and Gavin Christner tackled five.
The eighth graders will conclude their season when they travel to Ft. Madison on Thursday.
In the seventh grade gold game, the Panthers came out on top of a 22-20 score.
Joe Cobberly caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Keegan Rich in the second quarter to make up some ground on the Bulldogs, who got on the board first.
The pair connected on another 50-yard pass in the fourth quarter to seal the win. In between, Rich ran the ball in for a 35-yard touchdown. Rich also ran the ball in for the two-point conversion twice in the game. He finished with eight carries for 40 yards and was seven-for-12 passing for 127 yards.
Cobberly finished with five catches for 120 yards. Ryan Walljasper had a four-yard catch and Wyatt Carlston had a three-yard catch.
Cole Burns had two carries for 23 rushing yards. Walljasper ran the ball three times for 18 yards, and Briton Ensminger carried three times for 12 yards. Dalton Smith had five rushing yards on the day, while James Lobdell and Aaron Scarff had two yards on the ground each. Jermaine Miles had a fumble recovery.
The gold team is now 4-1.
The maroon team had its first tie game of the season on Monday when it finished its game against Ottumwa knotted at 6.
Ottumwa scored in the second quarter and managed to shut out Mt. Pleasant until the fourth quarter, when Brady Sartorius crossed the goal line on a 12-yard run.
Sartorius finished with six carries for 33 yards, and he was nine-for-16 passing for 122 yards.
Jordan Magnani led the team on the ground with 10 carries for 76 yards. Isaac Kuster had four carries for 14 yards. Magnani also had three catches for 62 yards on the day. Kuster had three catches for 20 yards; Payton Kelly had 33 receiving yards on two catches and Maison Ashton had a seven-yard catch.
Magnani recovered two fumbles and Tanner Ruby had one.
The team is 4-0-1. The seventh graders finish their season when they host Ft. Madison on Thursday.
