WASHINGTON -- The Mt. Pleasant and Washington boys soccer teams battled it out on Thursday night in the pairs second meeting of the season.
For Mt. Pleasant, it was another successful Southeast Conference result as the Panthers defeated the Demons 2-0. With the win, the Panthers sweep the regular season series.
After falling 4-0 in the first meeting, Washington kept it closer this time around. However, a solid defensive showing for Mt. Pleasant kept the ball out of the Demons’ possession and led to an abundance of opportunities for the Panthers.
The Panthers finished with a goal in each half on their way to a ninth win, the fifth in conference action.
Substitute Jonah Zimmer got the Panthers going in the SEC bout. Zimmer found the ball in his possession after a deflection and the Panther senior chipped the ball into the back of the net with just under 23 minutes to play in the first half.
The Panthers continued to rattled off shots through the opening period and that narrative lasted all 80 minutes. In all, Mt. Pleasant shot 31 times, 21 of those were heading toward the net.
Meanwhile, the Demons forced Panther goalkeeper Xachary LeBlanc into just four saves on the night.
Mt. Pleasant’s second goal of the night came just four minutes into the second half, as Jack Newman put the ball into the back of the net.
With the win Mt. Pleasant improves to 9-3-1 and 5-0-1 in conference play. Washington drops to 2-10-0 and 1-5-0 on the year.
