MT. PLEASANT — Coming into Thursday night’s Southeast Conference showdown, the Mt. Pleasant boys soccer team hadn’t beaten Burlington since 2019, but that all changed in a shut out victory at East Lake Park.
Mt. Pleasant handed Burlington its first conference loss of the season, stumping the Grayhounds 1-0 to earn their second win of the year and first in league play.
The lone Panther goal came in the second half when Kolbein Ostby broke the scoreless tie with a score off an assist from Dylan White. The goal came on Ostby’s only shot on goal.
White had three shots on the day. Axel Ruis Noriega had two shots, and Rudy Ruiz Motta finished with eight saves.
Mt. Pleasant head coach Rocco Russo credited the young defensive squad of Jack Newman, Noah Lange, Caleb Reyes and Mario Carapia with anchoring the win.
Mt. Pleasant moved to 2-2 overall with the win. The Panthers will take a 1-2 conference mark into Fairfield (1-2, 0-2) on Monday.
