MT. PLEASANT — East Lake Park in Mt. Pleasant was busy on Thursday as the 2024 soccer season got underway. The Panther boys were taking on Clear Creek-Amana, with the girls at CCA for a road game.
At home, the Mt. Pleasant boys fell 4-0. The Panther girls lost 8-0 on the road.
The Panther boys went back-and-forth with CCA early. Both teams had their chances but it wasn’t until late in the first half when the Clippers scored the opening goal.
Mt. Pleasant had trouble holding off the CCA rush in the second half. The Clippers scored three more goals in the final period to pull away with the win.
Dylan White led the Panthers with four shots on the day, including one shot on goal. Jonah Zimmer had two shots, both on goal. Ben Carthey had two shots, including a shot on goal, and Kolebein Otsby had one shot on goal.
Xachary Leblanc was in net all game for Mt. Pleasant. He saved 10 shots in 80 minutes.
Like the boys, the Panther girls had a better first half than second. CCA score just three of its eight goals in the opening period.
CCA ran away with the game in the second half, winning the first girls’ soccer matchup between the two teams in 10 years.
Charice Auwerda had three shots on the day, putting one shot on net. Tori Wilson had one shot.
Both Panther soccer teams are now 0-1. Both teams were meant to play at Columbus on Monday night, but the games were postponed due to weather.
