BURLINGTON — Just one goal was scored by the maroon and gold on Thursday as the Mt. Pleasant offense in both boys and girls soccer was stifled by the hosting Burlington greyhounds.
The Panther girls saw an early lead slip away, falling 3-1. The Mt. Pleasant boys were shut out 6-0.
The Mt. Pleasant girls got things going early when Elly Manning scored off a goal from Charise Auwerda, making it 1-0 Panthers midway through the first half. The Panthers held that lead until halftime, but things unraveled in the second.
Burlington put up three goals in the second half to pull away with the victory.
In net, Evelyn Escobar saved half the shots on goal that faced her, finishing with three.
Mt. Pleasant hung with Burlington through one half on the boys’ side. The Panthers trailed 2-0 at halftime, but Burlington poured on four in the second half.
The Mt. Pleasant girls are now 3-2. The boys are 2-5. The Panthers host Fairfield in a boy-girl doubleheader on Monday.
