MT. PLEASANT - It was a cold night at the plate for the Mt. Pleasant softball team on Monday. The Panthers dropped a pair of games to Keokuk, falling 12-2 in Game 1 and 17-0 in Game 2.
The Panthers didn’t score until the bottom of the fifth inning in Game 1. After entering the bottom of the fifth trailing 7-0, Mt. Pleasant sent Ella McNamee and Savana Walls across the plate for the only runs of the contest.
Ella McNamee had a big game at hte plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles. Jersey Beachy went 1-for-2 with a double, and Savana Walls was 1-for-3 with a double.
Madison Helling gave up 10 runs over five innings in the circle, but only four of those were earned.
“I thought Maddie pitched pretty well,” said Panther head coach Mike Beason. “We just made too many errors behind her.”
Mt. Pleasant had just two hits in Game 2. Grace Kelley went 1-for-2 with a double, and McNamee was 1-for-3.
The Panthers trailed 8-0 heading into the final inning, but Keokuk poured it on late with a nine-run seventh. Bethany Drury took the loss in the circle.
