MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant softball team fell twice at home before the Fourth of July weekend. The Panthers were upended 14-2 by Davis County on Wednesday, and 10-2 by Fort Madison on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Mt. Pleasant had the game close, trailing just 5-2 heading into the fifth inning, but Davis County lit the Panthers up for nine runs in the top of the frame.
Mt. Pleasant found itself down 12 and needing to score three in the bottom of the fifth. The Panthers wouldn’t quite get there, finishing the night with a 12-run loss.
The lone RBIs in the game went to Parker Coleman, who finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Paityn Ensminger finished with a pair of hits as well.
Chaley Cook started the game in the circle and was tagged with the loss. Quintrie Lee saw time in the circle as well.
The Panther offense struggled one night later against Fort Madison, scoring just twice. Keagyn Coleman and Izzy Sloat each had RBIs, with Coleman’s hit being a double.
Lila Cook had a triple on the night, the team’s only other extra-base hit.
Chaley Cook pitched a full game against Fort Madison. She struck out four batters over her seven innings of work, but gave up 10 runs (nine earned).
With the losses, the Panthers fell to 6-29 overall. Mt. Pleasant finished the conference season 3-12.
