ALBIA — It sure wasn’t an easy start for the Mt. Pleasant softball team when the Panthers took the field for the first time Tuesday night.
The Panthers went in to Albia to take on the defending Class 3A champion Lady Dees. Mt. Pleasant was one-hit in a 10-0 loss.
Mt. Pleasant certainly hung in for a while. The Panthers, in their first game under new head coach Mike Beason, trailed just 2-0 after three innings.
Albia had the bulk of its runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The Lady Dees put up four in the fourth and ended the game an inning early with a four-run sixth.
The lone Panther hit came from Savana Walls, who finished 1-for-3 at the plate.
Freshman Madison Helling was in the circle for Mt. Pleasant for four innings. She gave up six runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks, while striking out one batter. Ella McNamee gave up four earned runs on four hits and five walks in 1⅔ innings in relief.
