Mt. Pleasant tennis drops second straight
Panther boys battle with Burlington, come up short in Southeast Conference match

MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant boys tennis suffered its second straight loss on Thursday night after a 6-3 defeat from the hands of Burlington.
The loss marks the end of a tough week for the Panthers (3-2) which saw them loses back-to-back Southeast Conference matches after opening the season with three straight wins.
Against Burlington (2-1), two of the Panthers’ three wins came in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches. The final victory came in doubles.
Zach Johnson and Beckham Prough were the Panthers’ two winners in singles. Johnson defeated William Woodard of Burlington 8-5 and Prough took a no contest victory.
Phoenix Watson suffered a 9-7 loss in the No. 1 singles match to Carson Ziegler of Burlington. Gavin Ross and Sawyer Fulton followed with 8-5 losses to Tomas Rascon and Patrick Morgan.
Dane Cook was edged in the No. 4 bout, 8-6, to the Grayhounds Thomas Fell.
In doubles, Johnson and Prough took a no contest victory. Meanwhile, Watson and Fulton fell 8-2 to Ziegler and Morgan. Ross and Cook suffered defeat to Rascon and Fell 8-4.
Mt. Pleasant will look to get back to its winning ways on Thursday, April 18 against Keokuk on the road. The Panthers previously downed the Chiefs 8-1.
