Mt. Pleasant tennis splits with Davis County
Panther boys roll, girls fall in season openers

MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams went 1-1 against Davis County on Thursday night. The Panther boys rolled to a 9-0 sweep, while the girls fell 7-2.
The Panther boys needed just three players to take out Davis County in singles. Sawyer Fulton, Dane Cook and Max Heater all coasted to victories, with Fulton winning 8-1, while Cook and Heater swept 8-0.
Lou Schimmelpfennig, Elijah Rynders and Lathan Novak-Watson all won via forfeit.
In doubles, Rynders and Schimmelpfennig played the only match of the night. The Panthers won 8-0.
Back in Mt. Pleasant, the Panther girls were having less luck against the visiting Mustangs.
The Panthers won just one singles match. Bethany Drury won the No. 1 singles match 8-6, but the rest of the squad fell.
Audrey Richmond dropped the No. 2 singles game 8-4. Halaina Crane fell 8-2 at No. 3. Zoey Carlsen dropped the No. 4 match 8-4. Lila Cook fell 8-4 at No. 5, and Hannah Villaplaza dropped a nail-biter, falling 9-8 (7-4) at No. 6.
In doubles, the top team of Drury and Richmond fell 8-1 and the No. 2 team of Crane and Carlsen fell 8-4, but the Panthers did get a win at No. 3.
Cook and Villaplaza battled to a close victory in the No. 3 doubles match, winning 9-7.
