Mt. Pleasant tennis splits with Fort Madison
Panther boys roll on road, girls improve but fall to Bloodhounds at home

The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams split with Fort Madison on the tennis courts on Thursday. The Panther boys swept the Bloodhounds 9-0 on the road, and the girls fell 6-3 at home.
On the boys’ side, the Panthers rolled through five singles matches, and won the last one by forfeit.
Owen Vansickel cruised in the No. 1 match, winning 6-1, 6-3. Jake Ensminger took the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-0. Elliot Cook won 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 match. Phoenix Watson won the No. 4 match, 6-1, 6-0, and Tim Cam was perfect at No. 5, sweeping 6-0, 6-0.
Lou Schimmelpfennig was slated at No. 6 for the Panthers in singles matches, but didn’t need to play. He won by forfeit.
In doubles, Vansickel and Ensminger won the No. 1 match 6-2, 6-2. Cook and Watson took the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-1.
The No. 3 match was forfeited by Fort Madison. Cam and Schimmelpfennig were slated to play for Mt. Pleasant.
On the girls’ side, Mt. Pleasant won three matches, including two on the singles side.
Bethany Drury and Audrey Richmond both won their singles matches. Drury won the No. 5 match 8-1, and Richmond won the No. 6 match, 6-0.
Drury and Richmond also won on the doubles side. The Panther duo dominated the No. 3 doubles match, 8-1.
In the higher up matches, Fort Madison was able to rack up four wins in singles and two in doubles.
In singles, Ellie Situmeang fell 8-0 in the No. 1 match. Mary Kate Peterson was defeated 8-2 in the No. 2 match. Victoria Smith lost the No. 3 match 8-0. Eva Rounceville was defeated in the No. 4 match, 8-2.
In doubles, Situmeang and Rounceville were defeated 8-3 in the No. 1 match. In the No. 2 doubles match, Peterson and Smith fell 8-1.
