Mt. Pleasant tennis sweeps Fairfield

The Mt. Pleasant boys? tennis team picked up a 7-2 win over Southeast Conference opponent Fairfield to up its season record to 2-1 (1-0 SEC), and the girls? team defeated the Trojans 5-4, remaining undefeated at 2-0 (1-0 SEC).

The boys got singles wins at East Lake Park from Zach Schmitz (8-1), Matt Zihlman (8-6), Tyler Pace (8-2) and Blake Wickham (8-2). In the doubles matches, all three Mt. Pleasant pairs won: Chase Higginbotham and Schmitz (8-2), Zihlman and Pace (8-1), and Blake Wickham and Sterling Wickham (8-3).

In the girls? meet at Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant got singles wins from Taylor Beatty (8-4); Tasha Glover (8-6); Becca Lehman (8-5) and Emily Hatfield (8-4).

The only doubles win came from Raeanna Crile and Hatfield, 8-6, which sealed the Panthers? victory.

Next up for girls? tennis is a trip to Holy Trinity in Ft. Madison on Monday, and the boys? team hosts Burlington Notre Dame on Monday.
