Panthers drop second matchup of season against Burlington Grayhounds

MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant boys tennis team has been rolling through its Southeast Conference opponents this season.
Mt. Pleasant only loss since the start of the season came from the hands of non-conference tennis powerhouse Maharishi, but conference foe Burlington added another loss on Tuesday night, with a 7-2 victory over the Panthers.
The Panthers two wins came from Jake Ensminger and Lou Schimmelpfennig in the No. 2 and No. 6 singles matches.
Ensminger won his match highhandedly 8-2. Schimmelpfennig took care of business in his match 8-5.
Burlington got the best of the Mt. Pleasant in the seven additional matches.
Owen Vansickel put up a good fight in the No. 1 singles match, but succumbed to the opposition 8-4. Levi Graber battled hard, but lost in a tight set 9-8 (7-5). Elliot Cook fell in a close single set 9-7 and Tim Cam was defeated 8-0 in his singles match.
In the doubles matches, Vansickel and Ensminger fell short in the No. 1 match 8-3. Graber and Cam were bested 8-5 in the second. Cook and Schimmelpfennig dropped their lone set 8-4.
Mt. Pleasant moves to 5-2 with the loss and will play Fairfield (4-5) on Thursday. The Panthers defeated the Trojans 6-3 in their previous matchup.
