ALBIA — There’s no doubt that the Panther boys were in a slump of late, but everything came together Monday night in Albia as the Panthers got the win they needed, defeating the Blue Demons, 53-45, to end a five game slide.
Everything was all knotted up at 13 after one, but it would be Mt. Pleasant’s game from there on out. The Panthers would go on to win the next three quarters, but it was a little too close for comfort.
Mt. Pleasant outscored Albia 11-9 in the second giving them just a two-point, 24-22, lead at the half.
In the second half, the Panthers did just enough to get the job done. They outscored the Blue Demons 29-23 to hold on for the win.
Mt. Pleasant’s usual scoring suspects got the job done. Dewon Trent poured in a game-high 23 points. Owen Vansickel continues to produce, finishing with 14 points, while Payton Hagans added nine.
The Panthers will be back on the court Friday in a Southeast Conference matchup with conference scoring leader Max Weaton and the Fairfield Trojans.
