There is no telling how long the high school track and field season will have to wait before a start up time, or if it will, but if the season does get underway, there will be state qualifiers in both Mt. Pleasant and Wayland this May.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the list of state qualifying sites last week. Mt. Pleasant landed on the Class 3A list, one of eight Class 3A sites, and WACO was one of 10 schools on the Class 1A list.
The two schools are both perrenial state qualifier hosts, usually getting the nod in Southeast Iowa. Last season, the vast majority of Union coverage area schools were sent to those two sites.
The state qualifying day is set for Thursday, May 14, in all classes for both boys and girls. The state meet would then run from May 21-23. Right now, the spring sports season is on hold.
The IHSAA and IGHSAU announced a suspension of spring activities on March 16, which includes practices. The spring season is set to begin again on April 12.
