Mt. Pleasant wins class at West Burlington meet

WEST BURLINGTON - It was a busy night on the track for a quartet of Union coverage area boys' teams in West Burlington on Monday. Mt. Pleasant, Washington, New London and Winfield-Mt. Union were all in action, and all four squads tasted success in at least one event.
Mt. Pleasant pulled out a first place finish in the Class 'A” field, topping the other big schools with 134 points, which was three better than second-place Fort Madison. Washington finished fifth in Class 'A” with 77 points.
New London scored more points than any other Union area school, scooping up 144 to finish second in Class B. Mediapolis edged the Tigers by six. Winfield-Mt. Union scored 74 points on the night for fourth.
Mt. Pleasant won five events in class A to lead the Panthers toward the top of the standings. The Panthers had two wins in the individual short distance events, two in the relays and one in the field.
Will Davidson took first place in the Class A 200-meter dash. He bested the field with a time of 24.64 seconds. Bryce Wilson edged Wilson in the 110-meter hurdles, winning the race in 16.60 seconds, beating his Panther teammate by 0.17 seconds.
The Mt. Pleasant distance medley team of Colton Hutson, Josh Mueller, Nate Stroud and Gannon McNamee pulled out a win in 4:18.83. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Bowen Davis, Jack Johnson, Morgan Van Nyuis and Wilson pulled out their race in 1:07.75.
The lone Mt. Pleasant field win of the day belonged to Cooper Pullis. He won the shot put with a hurl of 51 feet and five inches.
Washington won three events on the night, two of which came from distance star Lance Sobaski. Sobaski cruised in the 800-meter run, winning it in 2:09.64, and adding a victory in the 1600, in 4:45.18.
Washington's Elijah Morris took the 400-meter dash for the Demons' third win of the day. He crossed the line in 52.63 seconds.
New London had seven wins in Class B. Like the Demons, the Tigers had a nice night in the individual distance events, winning the longest three. The Tigers also picked up two relay wins and two wins in the field.
Julian Alexander was a double-winner for New London. He took the 1600-meter run in 4:57.88, and rolled to a win in the 3200, crossing in 10:38.89. Seth Bailey won the 800, crossing the tape in 2:11.46.
New London's 4X200 team of Boden Pickle, Camden Kasel, Torren Riley and Josh Catala won in 1:38.94. The distance medley squad of Kasel, Catala, Bailey and Rylan Martin also win, crossing the line in 4:04.81.
New London's Carter Allen dominated the Class B throwing events. Allen finished just under 50 feet in the shot put with a 49-04, and slung the discus 169-10 to become a double winner.
WMU had one win on the day and it came in the 110-meter high hurdles. Dane Sweezer pulled out the Wolves' only victory by speeding past the line in 18.02 seconds.
