Mt. Pleasant wins Tim Lamm Relays
Panthers beat Demons by 19 points in girls track meet

FORT MADISON — The Mt. Pleasant girls track and field team scored a win in Fort Madison on Tuesday, as the Panthers scored 159 points to take first in the 2023 Tim Lamm Relays.
The Panthers out-dueled Washington by 19 points in a Class A race that saw four teams hit the 100 mark in team points. Fairfield was sixth in class A. Cardinal and Van Buren County went second and third in Class B.
Mt. Pleasant won six events on the day to earn the victory. Three of those came in the relays, as the Panthers racked up points in the 4X100, the 4X200 and the 4X800.
The Panthers’ 4X100 team of Courtney Raub, Bailey Jalas, Tristian Shull and Andi Scott took first, in 52.53 seconds. The 4X200 squad of Alex Scott, Jalas, Shull and Courtney Raub won in 1:54.05, and the 4X800 quartet of Alex Scott, Shull, Andi Scott and Raub won in 1:58.53.
Mt. Pleasant’s Elsie Lange scored a solo win in the 400-meter dash, crossing the tape in 1:06.16. Rellana Van Deuren scooped up a win in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing in 1:13.48.
The Panthers won one throwing event. Ella Ensminger took first in the shot put, throwing it 34 feet, 4.75 inches.
Washington had three wins on the day, including two individually. Iris Dahl won the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:28.18, and Grace Voss cleared 5 feet in the high jump to take first in that.
The 4X400 relay team of Voss, Eden Levetzow, Lauren Horak and Dahl took first for the Demons. Their final time was 4:27.02.
In Class B, Cardinal won four events to anchor a second-place finish. Addison Adam and Cynthia Albert each won two events on the day.
Adam won a pair of sprints, taking the 100-meter dash in 13.21 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 27.86 seconds. Albert swept the throws, winning the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 10 inches, and hurling the discus 96 feet, 11 inches for first as well.
Van Buren County had two wins on the day. Rylee Phillips took the 3000-meter run in 13:32.03, and Marlee Mertens won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 6 inches.
Winfield-Mount Union had two wins en route to a fifth-place finish. Keetyn Townsley won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.06 seconds, and the shuttle hurdle team of Josie Nelson, Keyrenna Sharar, Tessa Hudson and Townsley won in 1:14.15.
