OSKALOOSA — The future of Mt. Pleasant soccer is in good hands, or at least that’s how it looks after a big weekend at the Mahaska Cup.
On the weekend of June 5 and 6, three co-ed Mt. Pleasant Soccer Association teams rose to the top. The Under-15 team, Under-12 team and Under-8 team all gave Panther fans something to be excited about.
The Under-15 team is coached by Rob White and Dwayne Frazier. The Panthers dominated all weekend, beating Centerville 5-0, Washington Blue 9-3 and earning a win over Washington Gold via forfeit. They took out Oskaloosa/Sigourney 6-0 in the semifinals and beat Ottumwa 5-2 in the championship game.
The Under-12 team, coached by James Oilar and Allen Wiseman, had to battle all weekend to earn a championship. After finishing second place in their bracket on Saturday, the Panthers won two nail-biters in the playoffs on Sunday, beating Mahaska’s top team in overtime to reach the finals and outlasting Fairfield’s squad in penalty kicks to win the title.
The Under-12 team also featured players who would have normally been in the Under-10 age group, but the Panthers didn’t have an Under-10 group this year, forcing those kids to play up.
The Under-8 team is coached by Beth Dolf and Abby Wiseman. There is no championship game for that age group, but they won all their games on June 5.
The Mahaska Cup is the end of the Spring 2021 youth soccer season. It was hosted at Lacey Recreational Complex in Oskaloosa.
