The Mt. Pleasant eighth grade girls? ?A? team dropped to 2-6 on the season with a loss to Ottumwa on Monday afternoon, while the ?B? team picked up another win and is now 7-1 overall.
Ottumwa claimed a 6-3 lead by the end of the first quarter of the A game and held the lead from there. They were up 14-11 on the Panthers by the half, picked up a point to make it 23-19 by the end of the third quarter, and they ran away with the win in the final minutes of the game, finishing it with a score of 32-23.
Haley Booton had eight points for the Panthers. Carolyn Lutovsky added seven, while Elle Schleisman and Megan Shumaker each chipped in four points.
In the B game, it was the Panthers who got an early lead and stuck with it through the rest of the game.
The score was 6-4 in favor of Mt. Pleasant at the end of the first quarter, and the Panther girls had stretched that lead to 12-6 by the half. They didn?t allow Ottumwa to score in the third quarter, going up 18-6, and finished the game with a 20-8 win.
Jade Kennedy had eight points. Ally Davis added four, while Afton Engberg, Morgan Fraise, Tabitha Liechty and Aline Thiengmany chipped in two each.
The girls? next game will be on Thursday at Fairfield. Tipoff is at 4:30 p.m.
