The Class 4A District 3 All-District team was released this week, and a trio of Panthers were honored for their play on the field this season.
Although Mt. Pleasant’s record didn’t turn out the way they had planned, the Panthers had a handful of season-wide performances that were on par with the best in the district. Mt. Pleasant was honored with two first-teamers and one second-teamer.
Senior Lincoln Henriksen earned his spot on the All-District first team. Henriksen did a lot of work in the trenches for the Panthers this season, and performed on special teams as well.
Henriksen was fifth on the team in tackles, with 37. He recovered one fumble on the year, a first quarter take-away against Keokuk.
Henriksen punted the ball 33 times this year a and eclipsed the thousand yard mark, punting for a total of 1,059. That was seventh-most among all Class 4A teams.
Sophomore Payton Hagans burst onto the scene this year for Mt. Pleasant, and that earned him a first team spot as well.
Hagans was a huge part of the Panthers’ offense. He ran the ball 94 times this year for 420 yards and five scores. He also caught 19 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown.
Though he was needed mostly on offense, Hagans did play both ways. He finished the season with 11 tackles and one interception on defense.
Hagans was also the primary kick returner for the Panthers. He returned 14 kicks for 279 yards, tied for eighth among Class 4A returners.
Mt. Pleasant’s only second teamer was Jacob Richtman, who was the top Panthers in the secondary this season.
Richtman finished the year with 43 tackles, including a team-leading 27 total tackles. He was the only Panther with multiple interceptions, picking off two for 34 yards.
Richtman, a junior, will be one of the anchors of the defense for the Panthers next season. He also may slide into the quarterback position, as he served as the backup this season.
