MT. PLEASANT - Mt. Pleasant senior Payton Walker signed his letter of intent to play for St. Ambrose University football on Tuesday in the Mt. Pleasant Community High School media center.
Walker, who will be studying Sports Management at St. Ambrose says the decision to sign with the Bees wasn’t too hard of a choice.
“Honestly, after talking to the coaches and going there, it really wasn't that hard,” Walker said. “They were close, they have a nice culture there and they have the major I was looking for. Those things kind of lined up and made it a really easy decision.”
Walker, who signed as a linebacker, is coming off a huge year for Mt. Pleasant. Walker led the defense with 75 tackles, 59 of which were solo. He had two takeaways, an interception and a fumble recovery, and also starred on offense, scoring seven times on 404 yards on the ground.
Walker will join a Fighting Bee squad that went 3-8 this fall.
Walker credits the Mt. Pleasant football program for helping him become a next-level player, and says he had the time of his life wearing the maroon and gold.
“This was probably the best four years of my life,” Walker said. “My best memories are with the guys, out there on that field.”
