Former Iowa Wesleyan football coaches Hal Mumme and Mike Leach will headline a lineup of former players and coaches at the first annual IWC Football Alumni and Friends Football Camp to be held Friday, July 15 at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
Mumme served as head coach at IWC from 1989 to 1991 and during that time compiled a record of 25-10 leading that team to the college?s only NAIA playoff, appearing in the quarterfinals in 1991.
Mumme?s 1990 team led the nation in passing offense and the 1989 and 1991 squads finished second nationally in that category. Mumme was NAIA District Coach of the Year in 1989 and 1991. He left IWC to build successful programs at Valdosta State, Kentucky, Southeastern Louisiana University, New Mexico State and now at McMurry University in Texas.
Leach served as offensive coordinator under Mumme while at IWC and followed him to both Valdosta State and Kentucky. From there, Leach became offensive coordinator at Oklahoma under Bob Stoops and then head coach at Texas Tech through 2009. Leach is now a member of the CBS College Sports Network, hosts a syndicated radio talk show on SiriusXM, and is close to releasing his first book.
Also scheduled to instruct are former Mt. Pleasant High School and IWC alum Marc Hill, now assistant athletic director at the University of Kentucky. Hill played under Mumme and Leach and served as strength coach at both the University of Arizona and Kentucky.
Other coaches scheduled at this time to participate include Matt Mumme, son of Hal Mumme and offensive coordinator at Davidson; Doug Elisala, strength coach at Utah; Dustin DeWald, IWC Hall of Fame quarterback and former IWC Head Coach Tom Horne, also formerly head coach at Valparaiso University.
?We?re really looking forward to conducting this camp,? said Mumme. ?We know that there?s great potential there in Southeast Iowa and we?re excited to work with all those young men and coaches.
The camp coaching staff will also be holding a coaching clinic for high school coaches on Saturday, July 16th from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ruble Arena on the IWC campus. Space for both the camp and the clinic are limited and registration forms are available online at www.iwcfootballalumniandfriends.com or at the IWC website, www.iwctigers.com. Registration will be closed once the camp and clinic are full.
