Myers, Anding share medalist honors
It was one of the better days for golf so far this season, but a tough course caused scores to rise for the Washington boys? golf team.
A week after posting a 160 to open the season, Washington?s boys? golf team posted a 176 through nine holes at the Kalona Golf Course. However, that number was good enough to claim the meet title over Columbus (192) and Mid-Prairie (205) on the day.

?From last week to this week, we started off the year really well at Mt. Pleasant last week, shooting a 160, but last night we went the other direction,? Washington boys? head coach Mark Berhow said. ?I?m confident we are going to rebound. Thursday at Fort Madison I think we?ll get back to the way we are capable of playing.?
A pair of Demons vied for meet medalist honors on Tuesday, with Dalton Myers and Derek Anding each posting meet-low 43s on the day.
?For both those guys, shooting a 43 isn?t where they want to be, but it was a tough course and they had a hard time reading the greens,? Berhow said. ?For the two of them to be there was OK, and I know they aren?t too pleased with that position.?
Jacob Van Osdol posted a 44 and Tanner Coleman notched a 46 to round out the Demons? scoring on the day.
Noah Enfield also carded a 46 for the Demons, while Mason Rich had a 56.
?It was a struggle,? Berhow said. ?It was one of those meets where we had to learn some things that we need to work on. There were some bad lies, but that?s golf. There were some adjustments that needed to be made. It was a tight course.?
Columbus was led by John Rees, who posted a 46 on the day, while Ryan Orr notched a 47.
Brodrick Whittmann carded a 49 and Erik Rees notched a 50 to round out the Wildcats? scoring, and they were joined by Dalton Bright?s 52 and Tommy Pretz?s 59.
Mid-Prairie?s Michael Callahan finished the meet one stroke off the lead with a 44 on the day to lead the Golden Hawks.
Ryan Slaubaugh notched a 50 to post his season-low score of the season, while Duncan McCain carded a 55 and Zach Owen had a 56 to round out the scoring.
Collin Gingerich notched a 59 and Seth Mann recorded a 62 for the Golden Hawks.
Columbus and Washington will be back in action on Thursday, with the Wildcats hosting Lone Tree and Danville, while Washington travels to face Fort Madison.
Mid-Prairie will host West Liberty for its next meet, held on Monday.
