Dalton Myers was able to test his stuff against the best over the weekend, and finished in a tie for 34th at the Class 3A state meet.
The Washington sophomore shot an 85 on the first day of the tournament, followed up by an 84 in Saturday?s second round for a 169.
?I had some struggles here and there,? Myers said. ?I couldn?t figure out my driver that well this weekend. I was all over the place with it, so that?s where my struggles came. The second day I pulled through and played a little better, but the score didn?t show it.?
The score may not have been what he was hoping for, but what he learned was how to manage himself.
?The nervousness on the first day, because being there was different to me, and with all the people there, I was a little nervous,? Myers said. ?It was awesome to play with some of the best people in the state. There are some very good golfers there and it was a good experience to be around guys like that. It?s good to get that experience.?
Myers noted that the goal for next year remains the same: return with the rest of his team.
?The goal is to get the whole team there,? Myers said. ?We are capable of it, and it would be a good experience. That would be awesome, because the team hasn?t been there for a couple of years.?
West Delaware?s Larsen Clayton won the individual title at the state tournament, shooting a 140, while Webster City averaged a 307 each day for a 614 and the team title.
