It was quite the debut for Sarah Nacos on Tuesday afternoon.
The Washington freshman carded a 36 in her first varsity action of the season, helping Washington win a triangular meet over Columbus and Mid-Prairie with a team score of 183.
?It was a very successful debut for Sarah Nacos,? Washington girls? golf head coach Leonard Kull said. ?She played lights out and looked very composed out there. She went about her business matter-of-factly and demonstrated that she has an awful lot of ability. It?s sure a lot of fun to watch her perform out there.?
The Demons also got a strong performance from junior Deanna Peiffer, who carded a 44 at Cedarcrest Country Club to help lead the team, while Sarah Waite put together a round of 50, Brenna Burlingame scored a 53 and Brenna Weidman had a 59 to round out the varsity scores.
In other scores for the Demons, Meredith Lumburg had a 59 and Megan Strabala had a 62.
?That score is a good score for our team, especially the first time around,? Kull said. ?It?s early in the year and as a first meet I thought it was outstanding. The course isn?t easy over there and the weather conditions were perfect. I think they were really pleased for the most part, and I was very impressed. They show a lot of potential going forward.?
Mid-Prairie took third at the meet with a team score of 222, and was led by Allyson Wertz, who put together a 44 to take third overall at the meet.
Lindsey Palmer had a 58, Olivia Nisly had a 59, and Cassidy Bender and Paige Slabaugh each shot a 61 for the Hawks, while Tiffany Fisher rounded out the scoring with a 79.
?The girls did a nice job of rebounding from the night before and knocking 19 total strokes off their team score,? Mid-Prairie head coach Tracy McArtor said. ?From top to bottom, each girl bettered her nine-hole score. We?re far enough along in the season now that many of the basics are just coming natural to them.?
