New 1A No. 15 Van Buren County girls win

KEOSAUQUA - Isabelle Manning poured in 27 points to lead a 58-48 comeback win for the newly ranked (No. 15 Class 2A) Warriors over the same-named Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division rival Warriors of WACO.
WACO jumped on top of the Van Buren County girls basketball team Thursday, taking an early 13-7 lead, but trailed the home team 16-13 at the end of the first quarter. Trailing 17-13 in the second quarter, WACO went on a 12-5 run for a 25-22 lead. VBC answered with seven straight points for a 29-25 lead but didn't score again and WACO had a 30-29 lead at halftime.
Grace Coble scored 10 of her WACO-high 16 points in the first half. Ella Kissell scored 11 while Aubri Garnsey and Molly McLaughlin combined for 13. The visitors kept the lead until Van Buren tied it at 37, then went on a 18-4 run that spanned the end of the third quarter (46-39) and the first half of the fourth when it was 55-41.
'The good thing about the game was the rest of the team scored more than Isabelle,” VBC head coach Matt Zietler said.
Manning added 10 rebounds, two assists and four steals while teammate Ella Jirak had 14 points and eight rebounds. Kadence Nusbaum produced eight rebounds, four assists, five steals and a block
Panthers dump Wildcats
COLUMBUS JUNCTION - The Columbus boys basketball team fell to Pekin 75-27 in a game postponed from Tuesday. Brody Frost led Columbus with seven points and Owen Watson added six. Columbus will be back in action Tuesday as they host Lone Tree.
The Panthers led 15-6 after one quarter, 37-12 at half, and 59-22 after three.
Brady Millikin was close to a triple, maybe even quadruple, double with 12 points, 11 assists, seven steals with six rebounds. Pekin teammate Chandler Stull had 15 points and four steals, and Brock Long 14 points. Luke Long contributed 11 points and five rebounds. Cael Lyle's stat line was filled with 10 points, six rebounds and five steals.
Woodshed game for Keota
KEOTA - The girl visitors from Lynnville-Sully gave its South Iowa Cedar League foe Keota a 75-20 defeat, with quarter leads of 21-0, 41-5, 59-15, 75-20
'It was a very tough game,” Keota head coach Jeff Sprouse said. 'They took us to the woodshed. We had too many turnovers, and just out muscled and outscored.”
Taylor Kindred had eight rebounds and Sky Weber five with two assists while Madison Scott had eight points.
