The New London baseball and softball teams went 1-1 against Wapello in Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover games on Friday night. The Tiger baseball team rolled, 11-0, in five innings, and the softball team fell 5-1.
The New London baseball team bounced back from an 8-3 loss to Central Lee the night before. The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth.
Tucker Gibbar went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the win. Shae Sumerfield went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Ryan Richey went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Kooper Schulte was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and both Josh Catala and Jaxon Allen knocked in a run. Catala also finished the game with three stolen bases.
Seth Bailey picked up the win on the mound, giving up three hits over four innings, while striking out seven Indian batters. Schulte came in to pitch in the final inning and gave up one hit, while striking out one.
The Tiger girls came into their home game against Wapello after a 6-1 win the night before at Central Lee. New London's offense couldn't quite get rolling against a tough Wapello team.
Wapello scored two runs in the first inning. New London responded with one in the second when Sophie Mallot knocked in Kara Krieger, to cut the Wapello lead to 2-2, but the Arrows scored the next three runs of the game, two in the third and one in the fifth.
Marah Hartrick went 2-for-2 to lead the Tiger offense. New London only collected six hits all night.
Elly Manning took the loss in the pitcher's circle for New London. She gave up four runs, all unearned, on three hits. Mallott gave up one earned run during one inning of work. Both Manning and Mallot struck one batter out.
