New London boys, Mid-Prairie girls well positioned

The area’s Class 1A and 2A track and field teams held their state qualifiers on Thursday night, and the Union coverage area has more than a plate full in the small school ranks.

On the boys’ side, New London leads the way with 11 state qualifications. Four of those are top seeds, as Carter Allen is the favorite in the shot put and discus throws, Kade Benjamin leads the high jump and the 4X100 team qualified first as well.

The defending Class 2A champion Mid-Prairie girls have qualified a ridiculous 17 individuals and teams. That includes double qualifications in the 800, 1500 and 3000.

Back on the boys’ side, Mid-Prairie’s Jayden Stafford has the Golden Hawks’ only three top qualifier times. Stafford qualified at the top in the 100 wheelchair, 200 wheelchair and 400 wheelchair competitions.
