New London boys, Pekin girls crowed SEISC champs

WAYLAND — Teams from around the Southeast Iowa Super Conference’s North and South Divisions competed last Thursday for a shot at a conference title.
By the end of the festivities, it was the New London boys hoisting the SEISC South title with a 150 total points. The Pekin girls captured the SEISC North with 154 points.
Mediapolis won the boys North Divisional title with a 186 points and West Burlington secured the girls South Division, finishing with 165 points.
Highland, Winfield-Mt. Union, Hillcrest Academy, WACO, Van Buren County, Cardinal and Columbus all competed as well.
The Tigers of New London had a great outing on the track in Thursdays meet.
New London saw nine total wins on the day.
Josh Catala was the 200-meter dash winner, clocking a time of 22.61.
The 1600-meter run champ was the Tigers Seth Bailey. Bailey posted a time of 4:37.81.
Alexander Julian dominated the field in the 3200-meter. His time of 9:56.39 was nearly 20 seconds better than the second-place finisher.
“It felt good,” Julian said of his performance. “Race plan was to just sit and kick. It worked out well. Really, I’m just getting ready for districts and state.”
Kade Benjamin and Carter Allen had a stellar outing in their field events.
Benjamin won high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches. Allen took both shot put and discus with throws of 50 feet and 154 feet.
The Tigers had a great outing in the relays as well.
Reean Seberg, Benjamin, Julian and Rylan Martin won the 4x400 in 3:37.04.
The group of, Benjamin, Martin, Julian and Bailey were the quickest in the 4x800, winning in 8:40.20.
In the distance medley, Seberg, Jordan Sharp, Martin and Bailey were the first to cross the line with a time of 3:47.73.
The New London girls ran hard, but didn’t get a win on the day.
The Pekin girls put together a brilliant performance for their team title.
The Panthers Lauren Derscheid was a two-time individual winner. Derscheid won the 1500-meter in 5:29.61 and the 3000-meter in 11:37.99.
Kerrigan Pope has nearly been untouchable in discus this season and Thursday was no different.
Pope tossed the disc 129 feet, 1 inch for the title.
Pekin picked up a slew of relay victories as well.
Makenzie Dahlstrom, Audrey Fariss, Derscheid and Sarah Eubanks were victorious in the 4x400 with a time of 4:23.47.
With a time of 10.44.45, Fariss, Alex Parsons, Brooke Sylvester and Eubanks won the 4x800.
Claire Roth, Lilly Reneker, Fariss and Derscheid were crowned champs in the distance medley in 4:42.97.
Other Union coverage area teams had nice showings as well.
Winfield-Mt. Union had a handful of winners on the day.
Keetyn Townsley won the girls 100-meter hurdles in 16.99. Townsley has been dominant in the event all season long and Thursday was the same.
“It felt pretty good,” Townsley said of the race. “I hit a couple of hurdles, so that slowed me down a little bit. Overall, I thought it was really good.”
Morgan Grelk, Kayreana Sharar, Josie Nelson and Townsley took the 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle with a time of 1:17.81.
For the Wolves on the boys’ side, Gabriel Hemsworth was a winner in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.62.
WACO’s Jocelyn Fulton was a winner in shot put. Fulton threw 31 feet, 5 inches for first.
Maggie Rinner, Ally Rinner, Katie Leichty and Zoey Dennler won the 4x100 meter in 1:14.52.
McKenzie Vradenburg, Halle Shelman, Amy Moran and Ellah Kissell grabbed a victory for the Warriors in the 4x200. The group clocked a time of 1:54.17.
For the WACO boys, Simeon Reichenbach was a winner in the 110-meter hurdles, 15.53. Reichenbach is one of the top hurdles in the conference and was one of the few to make this years Drake Relays.
“It felt really good,” Reichenbach said. “It’s great to see everything coming together.”
Zach Schmitz, Mason Miller, Isaac Oswald and Simeon Reichenbach won the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle in 1:04.54.
Van Buren County had a nice showing.
In the 800-meter, Kaith Neeley picked up a victory for Van Buren. Neeley finished in a time of 2:36.46.
Payten Poling took the 1500-meter run and the 3000-meter run in 5:32.94 and 11:51.04.
On the boys side, Anthony Duncan was victorious in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.42.
Duncan also won the 400-meter hurdles, posting a 58.61 for the top spot.
In the distance medley, Bryce Moquin, Jackson Manning, Wyatt Mertens and Duncan were winners. The quartet posted a 1:38.30 for first.
Columbus had two victories in the meet.
Triston Miller won the north division high jump title with a leap of 6 foot, 3 inches.
Miller also won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.34.
The Columbus girls didn’t get a win in the meet.
For Highland, Sarah Burton was the lone winner on the day. Burton jumped 17 feet, 1.25 inches for the top spot.
The Highland boys had no winner on the day.
Cardinal had a slew of good performances, but didn’t pick up any wins on the day.
