WEST BURLINGTON — New London baseball gave No. 2 ranked Notre Dame all it had in the two’s Class 1A district quarterfinal on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Tigers had a swell of momentum in the early stages of the playoff matchup on Tuesday, but after rain forced suspension of the game to Wednesday, Notre Dame turned it up a notch pulling out a 9-1 win over New London.
Through two innings in the quarterfinal, the Tigers held their own, facing just a 2-1 deficit after an RBI single from Memphis Watson scored Sullivan Barron.
However, the Nike offense never faltered. Notre Dame scored a run in six of seven innings on their way to the win.
Meanwhile, the Tigers never scored a run outside of the loner in the second frame.
The Tigers held the Nikes to just eight hits, while tallying five of their own, but couldn’t find the runs.
Tate Welcher led the Tigers with a pair of hits. Memphis Watson, Michael Raines and Sullivan Barron all finished with one hit as well.
With the loss, New London ends its season at 8-15.
